This term we have been doing a sports project. We visited the V & A museum to see the Sport vs Fashion exhibition.

This helped give us inspiration for our project.

We had to pick a sport. I decided to choose tennis and Cheer leading with an eighties feel.

I have made my design and chosen fabrics. I have chosen bright colours to go with the eighties feel. I am going to make it out of stretchy jersey fabrics as these are easier to move in and give it a more sporty look and feel.

My design is contrasted with white to make it brighter and add interest. Not all white as would be expected at Wimbledon.

So far my toile has gone fairly well. I have made a few alterations for example I need to change the fabric for the base as it does not allow enough movement, but I will keep a strip of fabric around the base.

I found this terms work quite difficult. I have learnt that I prefere the design projects and making the theme boards rather than the pattern cutting and construction, which I find more difficult. However, it is nice to see the completed garment from a pattern.

Images of my basic bodice. Paired with the skirt or shorts.

These pictures show the front, back and side of the shirt I made.

We did research on the shakers. Their philosophy is necessary, useful and beautiful. We had to decide on our own philosophy, I chose art to hang on the body, not on the walls. For this project I looked at paintings that had inspired clothes for example the Mondrian painting and dresses, Klimt's work that has inspired many patterns. I tried to put this and work inspired by Givenchy into my designs. I looked at how clothes can look quite sculptural.

Me using the dressmakers model to make a pattern for the basic bodice. I found it quite tricky doing the measurements and making sure it fitted correctly. I found the tape quite difficult to use making sure it was exactly straight round the waist and the positioning of the tape round the shoulder. However I found it was a good exercise and I enjoyed using the dressmakers models.

Our next project was a Folk theme, here I researched traditional costume and looked at the colours and trends.

I found this project difficult to start with . It was unlike anything I had done before and I found it quite challenging. But I found the architecture quite inspiring and I liked the shapes of the buildings. I managed to pull ideas for my designs from this.

This is a close up of how I wanted it to look with the over lock stitching.

These are images of my final draping piece. I was fairly satisfied with this, I thought the 3D ball worked well. I cut some petal shapes and over locked around the edges this looked quite effective, however I did not have time to do this to the rest of the draping piece .

I was quite pleased with my organic theme board. I think that I have set it out better than the Rococo board. As I feel it flows better and I have images as well as texture.

i used this board to help me design my draping piece. I think I am going to use the idea of flowing flower petals and sculptured balls in my draping piece.

Dale Chihuly gave me inspiration for my organic projects with his flowing sculptural organic structures and colours inspired by nature. I also like the shapes of his sculptures like sea creatures, shells, onions and flowers. The settings of his sculptures are also often outdoors, amongst nature. I hope to use the idea of 3D sculpture in my draping piece.

I was fairly happy with the colours and textures of my Rococo theme board I think that they went well with the project. I was not so happy about the design of the pieces on the board, it looked a bit messy.

One of the things we had to do was buy a postcard. This was one of the post card displays on the pier.

I was really pleased that I was able to get so close to this squirrel in the park. I think he looks really sweet!

I like the angle of this photo showing the lookout and the pier.

There is a park in the centre of Bournemouth I thought the curves of the river made a good photograph.

I like the shape of the architecture of this building near the town centre.

This is the Dotto train, a tourist attraction that we saw on our expedition!

I liked the colours of this carousel. We found it on the seafront near the pier.
I like the contrast of lines and textures in this photograph that I took of the AIB.
For my next project we had to theme boards and I chose to study Rococco. I was pleased with my final project and I enjoyed this work.

We had to visit a number of places including the pier and the park.
I enjoyed this activity it helped me to get to know people.
From the things we collected we had to make a dress inspired by what we saw. We were given bubble wrap and them added our folded flyers to the design.
